Join us for an evening of storytelling from Historian David Finch, a guided tour of our new Formed by Sand exhibit (about Calgary’s relationship to sandstone and oil), a cash bar and conversation.
Through many boom-and-bust cycles Calgarians’ understanding of – and relationship to – success, failure and resilience has been carved and shaped just like the sandstone and soil on which we’ve built our lives.
David Finch (www.davidfinchhistorian.com) will spin an hour of entertaining and fact-packed stories that he has quarried from Calgary’s early days to the present. This one-time-only event will include a short film containing rare footage of the Turner Valley oil fields in the 1940s. After his talk, Lougheed House staff will take you on a guided tour of our new sandstone exhibit, Formed by Sand, that features contemporary paintings, video, mixed media, drawings, writing and collage from 15 contemporary Alberta artists, as well as many historic photos of Calgary’s early sandstone era.
