As a Lougheed House volunteer, you can make history come alive for Calgarians and visitors from around the world. We treasure our volunteers, and because of growth in events and programming, we're looking for more great people to volunteer with us. How do I volunteer? Let me count the ways!
Lougheed House Interpreters and Tour Guides
Volunteers who enjoy meeting the public, sharing historical information about Lougheed House and conducting tours of the House. Lougheed House also seeks volunteers who speak languages other than English.
Beaulieu Gardens
These volunteers assist our Head Gardener in nurturing and beautifying the Beaulieu Gardens on the 2.8 acre historic estate. If you like digging, planting, weeding, deadheading, watering and socializing, this is for you! In partnership with the Rose Society of Calgary, we've pulled up the sod just West of the House to make way for a new Victorian garden - come see the progress of Lady Lougheed Rose Garden!
Annual Lougheed Events
Lougheed House hosts several annual events where volunteers are very welcome!
Mother's Day Brunch - annual event
Third Sunday in May - 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Alberta Ballet House & Garden Tour - annual event
Fundraiser for Alberta Ballet
Last Saturday and Sunday in June - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Art Walk Calgary - annual event
Sunday in September - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
ArtWalk is a tremendous opportunity for the general public to visit various art galleries and artist studios! Lougheed House displays artwork by members of the Alberta Society of Artists.
A Ride Through Time - signature event
Saturday of Heritage Day weekend in August - 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
A Calgary favourite! This is our chance to show off Lougheed House and Beaulieu Gardens. This is a fabulous, fun-filled day for the whole family - complete with 1920s and 30s vintage cars and costumes, and old-fashioned games and refreshments.

Homes for the Holidays 2008 - annual event
Last weekend in November - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
A popular annual fundraiser in partnership with Kids Help Phone! Lougheed House is one of several Calgary homes elegantly decorated for special public viewing. It's a great way to get into the spirit of the season - festive atmosphere, complete with winter holiday activities, caroling and halls decked throughout!

Fundraising Events
These various events raise money to support ongoing programs at Lougheed House.
A hearty "Thank You" to every single one of you who volunteered at our Casino fundraiser last September 12/13, 2007 at Elbow River Casino! We are deeply grateful for the $103,000 which we received, and the funds are being put to very good use. Our next fundraising Casino will be in the Spring of 2009. Please make a note in your calendar... it's smoke-free!
Education Programs [currently under development]
For those who enjoy working with young people! Assist in the development of workshops with an emphasis on history, or lead elementary school or youth group programs.
Volunteer Questions and Information
When is a good time to get involved as a volunteer at Lougheed House?
There are different times of the year when Lougheed House recruits and trains volunteers. We welcome volunteer inquiries any time and do recruit for special events throughout the year.
Do I have to buy a membership to become a volunteer at Lougheed House?
We encourage our volunteers to become members of the Lougheed House Conservation Society, however it's not mandatory. Membership does have its privileges, though: unlimited admission to the House, the LANDMARK newsletter and members-only events.
What is expected as a volunteer at Lougheed House?
We require that all volunteers take part in the training program. The orientation workshop gives an overview of the history of Lougheed House, safety and security at this site, and general matters about volunteering here. Further workshops provide training to volunteers for specific tasks or roles Volunteers are expected to fulfill their commitment(s), or to call in to arrange for a replacement should they need to be absent.
How many hours do I need to volunteer?
Lougheed House volunteer opportunities are unique and offer different levels of commitment. Volunteer just a few hours, say for a particular function or event, or make a weekly commitment. The range and extent of the commitment is up to each volunteer to determine.
How about Volunteer Appreciation?
Believe us, we could not do it without you; Lougheed House volunteers are appreciated indeed! We host regular Volunteer appreciation events to thank our volunteers for the valuable time and talents they contribute. These fun-filled events also give our volunteers an opportunity to socialize with others who volunteer on different days or in different areas at Lougheed House.
